About The Artist
Artist's Statement
My work in ceramics is a continuous exploration of nature as a sanctuary for inner peace, deeply rooted in my childhood spent in the backwoods of Oregon. Growing up in that landscape, the solitude of the wilderness provided boundless opportunities for both physical and spiritual exploration. Today, the clay forms I create serve as a reflection of those quiet moments and the subtle transitions we experience throughout life.

During my studies at George Fox University, I was introduced to the traditional processes of Anagama (wood) and Raku firing. These elemental methods deeply influenced my focus on the tranquility that can be attained through patient reflection. In my current practice—which encompasses both wheel throwing and hand-building—I seek to balance a sense of profound stillness with dynamic expression. Vivid bursts of color are intentionally enveloped within the overall serenity of each piece, drawing inspiration from the Japanese aesthetic ideal of finding a touch of vibrant beauty nestled within deep quietude.
Ultimately, my work is a vehicle for connection. Each piece is an invitation to pause, reflect, and explore the vital relationships that tie us to our surrounding environment and to one another.
